In these short stories the author has a strong need to disguise scepticism, melancholy and alienation of a modern man through irony, humour, curiosity, erotic elations and most of all through the intergrity with the universal culture scheme which corresponds to the spirit of our time. Based on simple subjects and motives the stories develop into luminous narratives with a condensed dramatic effect. Their charm lies in the author’s readiness to tackle some existential problems through his lucid observation and with a moderate dosage of nostalgy.

Svetozar Vlajkovic does not wish to deal with or solve some intricacies of literature – which he has proved in this collection of short stories, too. He is not willing to answer some philosophical, historical or ideological questions; he is not looking for some abstract inherent truths. But, it is just for these reasons that his fiction is so very much suggestive, so packed into a charming masterly told tale about emotional oscilations which as a rule dissolve into specific aparthy, into lethargic “poetry of everyday life”.
